Hoxne Village Hall
This
project involved the substantial enlargement of a village hall
dating from 1879, to approximately double the floor area; demolishing
earlier flat roofed extensions. The exteriors had to replicate
the flint, special brick, and stone detailing of the 19th century
building and the junction between old and new is barely discernable. The
existing main hall was refurbished, and the new extensions provide
the sort of up-to-date facilities now expected in public buildings. This
includes good access for disabled users. There
are now some attractive spaces internally: A welcoming entrance
foyer in red brick with Douglas fir joinery; and a light and spacious
lounge area. Early design was by Martin York.

The
entrance provides disabled access with the main ramping contained
within the building, thus forming a generous foyer. |
