The Half Moon and Star, Ipswich

The Half Moon and Star inn had once been a prominent building on the main thoroughfare into town.  When purchased by the Ipswich Building Preservation Trust it had been empty and neglected for many years - having no commercial value - and was on the Suffolk register of Historic Buildings at Risk.  It is listed Grade II and is within the conservation area.

The Trust were able to save the building by attracting appropriate grants, for refurbishment and conversion to four flats and a three bedroom cottage.  Conservation work was concentrated upon restoring the exterior elevations.  The removal of layers of textured paint revealed Georgian brickwork that required surprisingly little making good.
